GEI has an excellent career opportunity for a Construction Manager in our East Region. This individual will assist with multiple tasks on design led and design/build projects. The individual will support project work nationally, at times requiring extended stays at locations across the US. The Construction Manager may serve as owner’s representative to support GEI led and managed design building construction.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

The Construction Manager should have experience with project delivery in a variety of settings, which might include MGP sites, building sciences, hazardous and asbestos site investigation, utility decommissioning, building demolition, remedial construction planning/scheduling/alternatives analysis, site earthwork management, wetland restoration and dredging. 

  • Perform as a liaison for our clients for a variety of environmental remediation and construction projects, including MGP projects, throughout GEI’s East Region (New England to Atlanta)
  • Oversee site safety and coordinate with project team members including subconsultants and subcontractors to establish a site-safety program.
  • Manage project delivery, cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Approve contractor invoices and maintain project earned value estimates.
  • Run project bids, lead contractor bid selection and provide recommendations for project award.
  • Work with the project team and stakeholders to develop proposals, project scope, plans & specifications, engineers estimates/budgets, sequencing and schedules.
  • Identify risks to the project and organization and work with project team members to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the prime contract requirements and manage contract modifications as needed.
  • Work with the project manager and accounting team to evaluate vendor and subcontractor invoices and arrange for payment.
  • Coordinate with client, staff and stakeholders including federal EPA and the state regulatory community.
  • Run project meetings and maintain documentation of project communications.
  • Oversee activities of GEI field engineering staff on assigned projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Construction Management or Environmental/Civil Engineering or Associates degree and equivalent experience
  • E.I.T., P.E., or CCM® is desirable but not required
  • 5-15 years of previous professional experience in an environmental construction remediation-related field; familiarity with environmental regulations, sampling methods, and air monitoring equipment, and knowledge of construction methods and procedures.
  • Experience working on Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and estimating and scheduling software.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on long-term assignments as needed throughout GEI’s East Region (New England to Atlanta) and occasionally to other GEI project sites in other regions. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Physically able to perform construction site inspections.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-hour refresher
  • 8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor’s Training
  • 30-hour Construction OSHA Safety Training
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
