Your Role at GEI.
GEI’s New York City office is seeking a Staff Environmental Professional. This individual will provide support to and manage a variety of tasks including review and interpretation of data and preparation of reports and work plans; task and project planning and management; assistance with business development and preparation of proposals; client, subcontractor and regulatory agency interaction; development and implementation of remedial strategies; assistance with remedial design; coordinating, setting up and performing oversight of soil borings and installation of groundwater monitoring wells; collection and laboratory analysis of groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil, soil vapor and air samples; operation of air monitoring equipment; testing to evaluate groundwater aquifer characteristics; and remedial construction oversight and management.  
Primary responsibilities:
  • Perform environmental site assessments, remedial and pre-design investigations, test borings (geological logging and interpretation), well installations, environmental sampling of various media, aquifer testing, pilot tests, and technical oversight of subcontractors.
  • Work with other environmental professionals and clients, specification and submittal review, project tracking and documentation, participating in or leading remedial construction team meetings, acting as a client liaison, assisting with the preparation of final engineering or construction completion reports.
  • Having a commitment to safety (essential to this role)
  • Assist with project management tasks including responsibility for budget preparation and tracking, staffing and scheduling, and interaction with subcontractors, clients, regulatory agency representatives and working with and instructing staff on roles, responsibilities and protocols for work to be performed.
  • Work as part of a team on complex regulatory projects involving multiple stakeholders, agencies and professionals. 
  • Work on a construction site and interact effectively with construction crews.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in area aligned with GEI’s Environmental Practice.
  • Minimum of 3 to 6 years of previous professional experience in environmental consulting.
  • Experience in environmental investigation and remediation strategies, implementing environmental remedial actions and overseeing construction.
  • Effective time management and follow-through, with the ability to simultaneously work on and lead multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience working with clients and managing project schedules and finances.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites with some overnight travel.
  • Flexibility in work schedule/hours.  A typical workday consists of an 8-hour day. Some projects may include irregular hours (40-55 hours per week) up to a 12-hour day, with irregular starting and quitting times, in accordance with the requirements of the assigned job.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to carry field equipment, samples, etc. up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
          Preferred Qualifications:
          • OSHA 30-hour Construction training.
          • Knowledge of NYCRR Part 375 and Part 360 and its application to New York City and New York State.
          • Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD and GIS is a plus.
