GEI continues to grow and is seeking a Sr. Geotechnical / Geostructural Engineer – Practice Leader to join our practice in the DC Metropolitan area and the surrounding areas of Virginia and Maryland. Design and construction projects will include foundations, tunnels, dams, excavation support systems, ground improvement, and environmental work.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Support and grow the practice in Washington DC and the surrounding areas of Maryland and Virginia by serving new and existing clients and markets while cross-selling GEI’s core business areas.
  • Help coordinate business development activities within the practice by identifying key clients / business areas, growth strategy, and capture strategy.
  • Lead proposal efforts, maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in professional organizations, and make presentations at client and industry events.
  • Exemplify commitment to technical excellence balanced with client-expectations and satisfaction, and profitable project management. Serve as a technical leader and mentor.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts and the integration and training of new staff.
  • Contribute to strategic planning at the office, regional, and national level.
  • Provide technical leadership and senior level oversight and serve as Engineer of Record.
  • Overnight travel is required; approximately 20 to 30%.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical / geostructural engineering with experience working in the DC Metropolitan markets and/or Maryland and Virginia.
  • Minimum of M.S. degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
  • Seller-Doer with strong client relationships, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a track record of generating new work and growing a business segment.
  • Diverse technical background including a strong fundamental knowledge of the principles of geotechnical and/or geostructural engineering.
  • Recognized for technical excellence and the development of client-focused, creative and practical solutions.
  • Collegial team builder with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices, and project/client sites as required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
