GEI is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager/ Senior Engineer to join our dams and water resources consulting practice. Dams, reservoirs, hydroelectric developments, and other water resources facilities are crucial components of our nation’s infrastructure, providing clean energy, water supply, and flood control.  GEI serves public and private clients operating some of the largest and most interesting water resources projects in the world.  Our roles include designing new facilities, upgrading existing developments, evaluating safety, and assessing risks.  As part of GEI’s dams and water resources practice, you will work with the leading experts in dams and dam safety at one of the premier firms in the industry. 
 
This position can be filled in our Woburn or Franklin (MA), Bedford (NH), Glastonbury (CT), Portland (ME), or Ithaca (NY) offices, with an expectation of about three days a week in-office (i.e., about two days remote).  Depending on the level of experience, the role will consist primarily of project management or primarily of in-house consultant / technical review.  This position is expected to follow a hybrid model, with some time spent in the office mentoring junior engineering staff.  Dams in our clients’ portfolios are in some of the most spectacularly scenic parts of the country, including the Connecticut River Valley in Vermont and New Hampshire, the lakes of central Maine, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. 
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Serve as senior Project Manager or In-House Reviewer for dam safety projects.
  • Review structural, geotechnical, and hydraulics and hydrology (H&H) calculations/analyses for dam projects of earth embankments, concrete dams, penstocks, and dam gates. 
  • Perform or review detailed technical calculations/analyses for dam projects in one of the following disciplines: geotechnical, structural, and/or H&H.
  • Develop and evaluate alternatives for new facilities and upgrades to existing projects.
  • Review detailed design drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect ongoing dam and water resources construction projects for conformance with design requirements.
  • Inspect existing projects as part of regulatory compliance programs (e.g., FERC Part 12D).
  • Participate in semi-quantitative risk analysis workshops.
  • Prepare formal written reports, give presentations, and participate in internal and client 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Registered professional engineer in a New England state, or ability to obtain reciprocity in any New England state within 1 year of hire date.
  • 10+ years’ experience in dam safety engineering.
  • 15+ years’ experience in civil engineering discipline.
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary design and engineering teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel for site visits / inspections, client meetings, and business development opportunities (to include overnight travel, as needed).
Desired Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Water Resources.
  • FERC approved Independent Consultant or ability to apply within 1 year of hire date.
